Hi! I'm Tom Power, an experienced audio plugin developer, app developer and music technologist. Wild Surmise represents the fusion of my passion for music, technology and code. Based between Amsterdam, Netherlands, and Dingle, Ireland, I specialize in audio plugin development, iOS app development, cross-platform app development, creative technology, and web development.
I have 5 years of audio plugin development in JUCE & C++. Building AU, VST3, AAX plugins that are used by thousands of music makers. My clients have ranged from small solopreneurs to big music tech companies. I work both on the DSP side of things and the frontend GUI design and development. What I love most is helping audio entrepreneurs realise that napkin idea into a full audio plugin!
Some of the first music making tools that inspired me were iOS music apps such as Samplr and AUM. iOS is a rich platform for audio development. I have worked with large plugin brands porting their JUCE projects to full iOS releases on the App Store, with 100k+ users. I also work within Swift to deliver cutting edge prototypes to clients or using Qt to deliver cross platform prototypes to clients.
In my winding path leading up to audio tech I worked as a Creative Technologist in various companies. Between 2018-2021 I was the cofounder of a creative studio Imagination of Things. There I worked with a varied set of clients delivering interactive experiences. Using tools such as TouchDesigner, Python, Processing, OpenFrameworks. Some of the things we did made it to museums in Brussels and Athens.
Like many software devs I started off in web. Web tech of course touches every part of the audio plugin business. I have built full websites from scratch in React. Or helped clients leverage existing tools like Webflow and Shopify. I've built plugin licensing services in AWS. Microservice backends in Google Cloud and Firebase. More excitingly I'm exploring using Web tech as GUI for audio plugins and apps. I think it has a lot of potential. I recently helped one of my largest clients deliver a project with Web UI and a C++ backend to thousands of users.
